6/8 Notes

Here is some other Detroit Sports news to look over before the NBA Finals start on Thursday.

The Detroit Tigers traded closer Ugueth Urbina for infielder Placido Polanco. There had been a lot of speculation lately on if the Tigers would trade Urbina or not. Urbina was the Tigers' closer last season. During the offseason the Tigers signed Troy Percival to become the Tigers' closer. Percival has been injured this season and Urbina has been the Tigers' closer.

Urbina recorded 21 saves last season for the Tigers. This season he has 9 saves. His career high for saves was 41 back in 1999.

Polanco is hitting .316 this season along with twenty RBIs. Polanco's best season was last year when he hit .298 with a career-high 17 homers and 55 RBIs in 126 games.

Brian over at Tiger Blog has some great coverage on why this was a bad deal for the Tigers.

The NHL is closer to a deal for a salary cap than expected. Click here to get a full report on this news. The NHL needs to get a deal done for the upcoming season or the future of the NHL will be destroyed even more than it already has been destroyed.
